Edith and JJ's Kartini spirit

The program began with Edith's evocative piano playing, despite its origins in faraway Europe. From the works of Eugenie Rocherolle, among others, he took "Souvenirs from Paris" (Souvenirs de Paris) and "One Day in Rome" (Un Giorno a Roma).

Both managed to present beautiful music.

The two musicians then presented a work entitled "Siklus Sajak Usmar Ismail 'Puntung Berasap'" which was composed by Mochtar Embut. Of the three songs "Hidup", "Jika Kau Tahu", and "Cita-cita", the latter may be the most familiar to music enthusiasts.

Another classic Western work that was performed is "Frauenliebe und Leben" (A Woman's Love and Life) by Robert Schumann. This poetic song has three acts, namely "The Story of Falling in Love", "The Story of Marriage and Children", and "The Story of Loss and Sorrow".

After a break, one interesting piece was "Seharusnya Wanita" from the Nurbaya Musical Series by Ivan Tangkulung. This is where Awana's monologue appears. This work was also repeated as the closing performance at the Concert held at Kertanegara Recital Hall in Jakarta on Sunday (21/4/2024).

It's not entirely clear what these two well-known music artists want to show. But as a musical presentation, JJ, who is known as a soprano and Edith, a doctor in piano performance and most recently also known as a music educator, both succeeded in presenting beautiful music. It could be that the message of being an excellent musician is what the two want to convey on Kartini Day.
