Jesus' sacrifice is the greatest proof of love

The most remarkable thing from this story of suffering is the fortitude of Jesus. He already knew what would happen and actually had the power to set himself free. However, he allowed everything to happen and chose to surrender his life to redeem the sins of humankind.

However, I became afraid, sad, and unable to imagine how it could actually happen and be experienced by Jesus himself.

The story of Jesus' passion also provides an example that love is not enough to just say or show visually. Love must be proven in something that is truly real. This example of the proof of Jesus' love should be deeply absorbed in the heart.

"With His stripes we are healed, we are saved. All of this should be absorbed, understood as a form of Allah's goodness that we should be grateful for every day," he said.

The story of Jesus' passion was presented visually in the Way of the Cross worship which was held on Friday (29/3/2024) morning at St Ignatius Church in Magelang City. The tragic story that was demonstrated provoked feelings of emotion among some of the people present.

Carolina (9), a third-grade student at Kanisius Pendowo Elementary School, said that she only paid close attention to the portrayal of the suffering of Jesus once. Despite being able to hold back her tears, she felt unable to imagine that what was being portrayed really happened and was experienced by Jesus.

"What I saw was a performance, but then I became scared, sad, and unable to imagine how it could really happen and be experienced by Jesus himself," he said.

Carolina came to St. Ignatius Church with her grandfather and grandmother. At the church, she met some friends from school. A truly emotional atmosphere was felt as many people around her cried while watching the cross-walk display.

A procession of the cross was performed by 20 children, students in grades 1, 2, and 3 from SMP Tarakanita. The procession was held in the church yard, while the congregation watched sitting down, without participating in walking, following the cross's path. The cross-walking practice had been prepared about a month ago.

"I feel emotional, sad, because I realize that carrying the cross requires incredible struggle and sacrifice," he said.

It is said that even though he only portrayed a small cross and traveled less than 1 kilometer, he was already tired. "It is unimaginable how Jesus could really do it for the salvation of others, our salvation, His people," he added.
