TPN Ganjar-Mahfud Supports Legal Process for Alleged Immoral Acts of KPU Chairman

According to Jaleswari, the alleged sexual violence/perverted behavior committed by Hasyim is a sexual crime/humanity crime that should not be done. Law Number 12 of 2022 regarding Sexual Violence Crimes as a constitution must be adhered to by all state institutions and society.

Therefore, future KPU members should include strict requirements regarding moral, ethical, and criminal violations. "If the KPU chairman violates the UU 12/2022, the sanction should be more severe. The KPU chairman should set an example and lead by example to the public," said Jaleswari.

The right to protection and recovery of victims needs to be given seriously as stipulated in Law 12/2022. "I take seriously any actions that violate ethics and threaten the security and comfort of women, including in the context of political participation and democratic processes," added Jaleswari.

Women, as emphasized, have the same right as men to participate in political processes and elections without fear of inappropriate treatment.

As previously reported by Kompas.id, on Thursday (18/4/2024) afternoon, the Legal Aid and Consultation Agency team of the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (LKBH FHUI), reported the Chairman of the Election Commission (KPU) to the Honorary Council of Election Organizers (DKPP) for alleged ethics violations, namely sexual misconduct against a member of the Overseas General Election Organizing Committee (PPLN). LKBH FHUI stated that the behavior was allegedly repeated.

A team from LKBH FHUI visited the DKPP office in central Jakarta. After submitting a complaint for about 2 hours, the LKBH FHUI team gave a press statement.

"We reported the Chairman of the Election Commission to the Supervisory Board for alleged violations of ethical integrity and professionalism that involved his actions in building personal and romantic relationships with a PPLN abroad," said the victim's legal representative from LKBH FHUI, Aristo Pangaribuan.

The Head of the KPU was first mentioned to have met with the PPLN officer in August 2023. Then, from August to March 2024, the Head of the KPU is suspected to have approached, coaxed, and even committed indecent acts towards the PPLN officer. However, Aristo did not disclose the initial name and the country where the PPLN member was stationed.

Regarding the complaint, Kompas has asked Hasyim Asy'ari for a response via the instant messaging application, but has not yet received a response from the person concerned.
