Aceh Police Seize 300 Kilograms of Marijuana in Nagan Raya, One Perpetrator Arrested

Joko stated that the seizure of marijuana was carried out on Wednesday (24/4/2024). The case was uncovered based on information obtained by the police related to drug smuggling in one of the areas in Nagan Raya. After conducting surveillance, officers saw AM at the location.

When examined by the officers, AM admitted to hiding marijuana in the bushes on the hillside. The dried marijuana had been wrapped and was ready for distribution.

To the police, AM stated that the marijuana belonged to someone else whom he referred to as Pawang. AM admitted to only being tasked with transporting the marijuana for a fee of Rp 50,000 per kilogram.

“He was ordered by the handler to transport. "At that time, the handler fled into the forest," said Joko.

In that case, Aceh Regional Police authorities managed to seize 13 sacks containing 132 packs of marijuana weighing 300 kg and 1 motorcycle. In addition, AM was also arrested for legal proceedings.

Previously, on April 18, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in Aceh seized 251 kg of marijuana from three suspects in Indrapuri District, Aceh Besar Regency. During the raid, the suspects were in the process of packaging the marijuana into small parcels.

Several cases have shown that Aceh is still a region that produces marijuana in Indonesia. Marijuana from Aceh is usually distributed to Java Island. However, every year, law enforcement officials have destroyed hundreds of hectares of marijuana plantations and thousands of kilograms of marijuana in Aceh.

Throughout the year 2020-2021, the police force in Aceh confiscated 2.5 tons of ready-to-sell dried marijuana from suspects. If the selling price of marijuana is Rp 600,000 per kilogram, the potential turnover of money from the drug sales reaches Rp 1.5 billion.

The Rector of Malikussaleh University in Lhokseumawe, Aceh, Herman Fitra, said that Aceh is in a state of drug emergency. Besides being a center for marijuana production, Aceh is also a gateway for smuggling shabu.

Every year, law enforcement officers destroy hundreds of hectares of marijuana fields and thousands of kilograms of marijuana in Aceh.

Therefore, Herman hopes that the government has the right strategy to stop the circulation of drugs in Aceh. According to him, law enforcement and improving the economy of the grassroots level must be done so that residents do not fall into drug networks.

The Chairman of the Anti-Drug Family Inspiration (IKAN), Syahrul Maulidi, believes that the lack of seriousness from various parties, especially law enforcement officials, has resulted in the continuous cultivation of marijuana in Aceh. He cited that during the destruction of marijuana plantations, it is rare to find the owners.

"The owner should also be revealed, not just the plants destroyed," said Syahrul.
