Ecstasy Covered in Vehicle Parts Smuggled from Europe

The package was announced as special spare parts for Honda. However, after an inspection was done on the package, it was found to contain 6 clear plastic packages containing 18,259 ecstasy pills weighing 9.6 kilograms.

In the second crackdown, the team found a package that was sent from the Netherlands and arrived at the Pasar Baru Post Office on April 22, 2024. The package was wrapped like a gift and declared as a magazine. However, upon inspection, the package contained 2,013 ecstasy pills weighing 1.06 kg.

According to Arie, the interesting thing about the case is that the perpetrator is suspected to be from Iran. He ordered goods from Belgium to be sent to Indonesia using a fake name and fake recipient name. Similarly, the package from the Netherlands also used a false sender address and only provided a telephone number.

"The method is the same, namely false declaration. So dedeclare not in the actual situation. "They (the sender) stated that the item was a vehicle spare part, but inside it was ecstasy," said Arie.

From the mapping and analysis of a joint team of Customs and Excise and the Indonesian National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit, a package from Belgium has been sent to Bandung. Subsequently, an initial recipient with the initial "E" was apprehended by the authorities. From there, the package was forwarded to the Pasuruan region in East Java.

Finally, officials succeeded in arresting four other suspects. Officials also listed a person with the initials RA as a wanted person. RA is a foreign national of Iranian nationality known to be a member of an international drug syndicate.

From investigation, when officials traced a package from the Netherlands that was intended for a location in North Jakarta, they arrested 2 more suspects, identified as IH also known as Bejo, and IRA also known as Ipan.

"We are currently carrying out development. "So, the next step is of course for us to investigate who sent the goods from the Netherlands," said Arie.

On that occasion, the Director of Narcotics Interception at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance, R Syarif Hidayat, expressed appreciation to PT Pos Indonesia. This is because, through good cooperation with PT Pos Indonesia, drug smuggling has been repeatedly thwarted.

"In essence, what we are trying to do here is to prevent the expenditure of the country because we don't have to rehabilitate people. We also prevent the unproductivity of humans. So, we are preventing the expenditure of the country," said Syarif.
